your WIN program overview
University of California members enrolled in the UC Care and HealthSavings+ medical plans are provided the following benefit:
Fertility Benefit: A 2-cycle* lifetime maximum benefit toward eligible expenses related to fertility treatment and fertility medications.
Please note: Prior authorization by WIN is required prior to initiation of medical treatment.

*A “cycle” is defined by this plan as ovarian stimulation with egg(s) retrieval. Member’s will have coverage for two (2) egg retrieval cycles with fertilization of eggs and subsequent embryo transfer for all embryos created from a covered cycle. Once a member has completed two (2) cycles of IVF-egg retrievals, the lifetime benefit maximum has been reached for all infertility related services, including Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) services.
how WIN supports you:
- Ongoing access to WIN’s Nurse Care Advocates and Behavioral Health Care Advocates for clinical guidance and emotional support
- Assistance in selecting a high quality, WIN network provider based on your individual treatment needs. Members are strongly encouraged to receive fertility care from WIN network provider. If you choose to receive fertility services from a provider not in WIN’s network, the provider may bill charges that exceed the plan’s allowed amount. In such cases, you are responsible for the difference between the billed charge and the allowed charge, in addition to any plan benefit cost sharing (deductibles, copays, and coinsurance).
- Expertise in understanding complex information and decisions regarding infertility causes, testing, and treatment option success rates and risks
- Coordination of your prescriptions through WIN’s mail order pharmacy, with nurse-led education on your medication dosing, usage, and side effects. Fertility-related medications are only available through WIN’s mail order pharmacy. These prescriptions are coordinated through your WIN Nurse Care Advocate and WIN’s pharmacy to ensure timely delivery and proper management of your treatment plan. Fertility medications are not covered under your UC pharmacy benefit and cannot be obtained through other mail order or retail pharmacies.
- Member savings, through the WIN Consumer Program, for those who have exhausted their benefit with financing options to make paying for treatment more manageable
